Cabo San Lucas

cabo san lucas vacation

Lisa Andre Flickr

Well, we’ve resisted having a Cabo San Lucas vacation for years but, when someone gifts you with the use of their time share, you take it and say ‘thank you’, so that’s what we’re doing. We’ll be going at the end of this month (October) and will be detailing our preparations and research before we go and reporting back when we return. If you want to read about our adventure and follow along with us, CLICK HERE.

If you  know Cabo or, even better, if you live there, please feel free to give us your suggestions and recommendations about what we should see and do while we are there.

Sailing Catalina Island

Boating Santa Catalina Island, California

Sailing Catalina Island

I’m finally planning my trip to Catalina Island! After all of the glowing reports I’ve heard from the people that have been there, I’m raising anchor and setting off to see for myself.

What’s so GREAT about Catalina Island?

Good question! Well, I haven’t been there yet but, according to other visitors, pretty much everything is great about Catalina. There’s an old casino there that was opened in the 1920’s and just looks gorgeous.

Hiking

There’s a bunch of hiking trails all over the island and because nearly the entire place is managed by the Catalina Island Conservancy, it’s completely pristine. There are even herds of buffalo roaming the place that were transported there when some early western movies were shot there.

Diving and Snorkeling

Dozens of amazing dive spots pepper the coast where you can observe a myriad of different marine creatures including spotted harbor seals and the beautifully golden Garibaldi.

Camping

Campers flock to Catalina not just for it’s natural beauty but also because it has some extremely secluded campgrounds that offer extreme privacy. Many of these campsites can only be reached by boat or kayak, now how’s that for secluded!

Kayaking

Kayaking and kayak-camping is an extremely popular activity on Catalina. There are some great sea caves that you can even paddle right into when the conditions are right.

More to come!

Submarine fun in Hawaii

Submarine package Hawaii

Now THIS looks like fun! Atlantis Adventures provides submarine tours departing from Kona, Maui and Waikiki. My wife loves the photos of the fish and the coral that I take while snorkeling but, due to a crippling affliction she calls fish-fear, she never goes in the water. This underwater escape seems like the perfect compromise where she can see the Hawaiian wonders without actually having to get in the water. The great news is that we can also enjoy it together.

Seems like a great activity for families too, very child friendly. Get more details HERE.

Hawaii on Craigslist

Affordable Hawaiian vacations

Many people don’t know that Craigslist has a fairly active Travel & Places forum where folk gather to discuss all things travel related so, naturally, when my wife and I started to plan our vacation to Hawaii, Craigslist was one of the first places I went to for advice.

The advice we received was generous, informative and extremely helpful because it came from a mixture of both travelers AND local residents and no one knows a place like the locals.

To see their suggestions read here. We are updating this article as more advice pours in.

Our Hawaii Travel Map

Discover Hawaii

Anyone that has read out article about our impending trip to Hawaii might also be interested in seeing our Hawaii Guide Map. It’s a google map that shows all of the places we are thinking about visiting and all of the activities we are interested in doing while we are in Hawaii.

Most of the ideas on the  map have come from suggestions made by other travelers, travel bloggers and, most importantly of all, local residents. In fact, it was KonaGirl, a local resident and Hawaiian native that put us onto the underground kayaking expedition.

But we also found some interesting things on our own like Maui’s delightful, six mile long Sugar Cane Train / whale spotting experience. So check out our map and hopefully it might help you plan your own Hawaiian adventure.

We’re off to Hawaii

Travel Hawaii

It’s finally happened, we’re going to Hawaii! I know, I know, please hold the applause until the end. We’re leaving on the 28th of April so we’ve got 16 days to plan this trip and we need your help to do it. If you’ve ever been to Hawaii or if you’re a local resident PUH-LEEZE help us out by telling us your favorite things to see and do on this tropical paradise.

We already have some great things in mind thanks to our fellow travel bloggers and we’ll be adding those things to this blog as we learn about them and add them to the list.

Things already on our list:

  1. Kayak tour of the (partly) underground irrigation ditches.
  2. Visit the black sand beaches.
  3. Visit Kilauea volcano.
  4. See streams of liquid lava pour into the ocean.

For more details about these activities as we plan our six day vacation, visit my travel blog at SayGudday.com.

If you’ve got some great ideas for us then please post them in the comments section below so we can add them to our wish-list.

Saint Thomas & Saint Croix tout guide, Jackie Sonia

virgin islands tour guideGudday! I was fortunate enough to grow up in paradise on earth, the U.S. Virgin Islands. Growing up on the island of St. Croix was magical. Since I was born in St. Croix, that is my true hometown. However, I can claim St. Thomas as my hometown, too since my younger years were spent in St. Thomas. Sometime during my middle school years, my family moved to St. Croix where I attended catholic school. However, we would go back and forth from one island to the other as we had families on both islands and my dad worked in St. Thomas. My grandma’s house was a hop, skip and a jump away from a lagoon in St. Croix. many a days we would trek there to catch crabs and swim. One of my fondest memories is of the family picnics we used to have at Cramer’s Park. The whole family would gather together, bring side dishes and my uncles would cook a pig right there on the beach. We [kids] would be in the water just splashing around and having fun. It sounds strange to say, but living on a beautiful island surrounded by all that crystalline blue water, many of us couldn’t swim a stroke.
