Saint Thomas & Saint Croix tout guide, Jackie Sonia

virgin islands tour guideGudday! I was fortunate enough to grow up in paradise on earth, the U.S. Virgin Islands. Growing up on the island of St. Croix was magical. Since I was born in St. Croix, that is my true hometown. However, I can claim St. Thomas as my hometown, too since my younger years were spent in St. Thomas. Sometime during my middle school years, my family moved to St. Croix where I attended catholic school. However, we would go back and forth from one island to the other as we had families on both islands and my dad worked in St. Thomas. My grandma’s house was a hop, skip and a jump away from a lagoon in St. Croix. many a days we would trek there to catch crabs and swim. One of my fondest memories is of the family picnics we used to have at Cramer’s Park. The whole family would gather together, bring side dishes and my uncles would cook a pig right there on the beach. We [kids] would be in the water just splashing around and having fun. It sounds strange to say, but living on a beautiful island surrounded by all that crystalline blue water, many of us couldn’t swim a stroke.

Australia – Moonta Bay, Yorke Pennisula in South Australia

Moonta Bay

Moonta Bay, only a four hour, scenic drive from Adelaide (the capital city of South Australia), is a quick weekend get away for the romantics at heart or a fun filled Family holiday. The place for me represents a well deserved relaxing get away.

Each year my family and I go to Moonta Bay for a holiday in the sun, usually in January. We have a great time staying in a self contained apartment right on the beach. I cherish these holidays the pace is slower, and there is lots to do both in Moonta and the surrounding areas.

The accommodation in Moonta is varied from luxury apartments on the beach to an affordable caravan park situated right on the beach near the jetty

Very Affordable & comfortable accomidation

We always stay at the sea star apartments Prices vary depending on the season but it was about $220 a night. This price appears to be typical for beachfront property but cheaper accommodations are available the further away from the beach you get.

Things to do and see

Clearly the beach is a big attraction with long sandy beaches you can build sandcastles, fly kites, go for long walks, have fun swimming, kayaking, boogie boarding the list is endless. The water is great for children. There are rocky reefs that are exposed at certain times in the tides they are great for discovering the wildlife, we love looking for crabs.

Moonta Bay Fishing

If you like fishing, you can catch garfish, snapper, crab and squid off the Jetty in Moonta. With Port Hughes also not that far away there is plenty of fishing areas to choose from.

Moonta town itself is very quaint with antique shops, second hand stores and bookstores they are great to casually browse through. Kadina and Wallaroo are also close by for shopping and exploring. These can be great days out.
